The Five Rs Rule, also known as 5 R or Cinco Erres, is an ecological lifestyle recommendation, popularized by Béa Johnson, with the aim of minimizing the impact of human waste. The five points of this lifestyle are:
- refuse all single-use products and favor purchases without waste (such as bulk);
- reduce the consumption of goods;
- reuse (repair) everything you can;
- recycle anything that cannot be reused;
- composting all organic waste (rot in English).
These tips are applied, in particular, in the concept of zero waste, which aims to minimize the amount of waste produced.
This list is ordered in such a way that recycling is no longer presented as the first ecological reflex to reach, but the last solution to be considered after thinking about refusing the object and after considering its reuse.
